Lyra's got a bus!

Our 2005 single decker Scania Wrightbus Solar is Lyra's mobile home for touring theatre around Edinburgh and beyond! Previously a working bus serving passengers in York, Chester and Wigan, the seats have been removed and the bus is now a perfectly proportioned touring theatre. Lyra's bus driver Oli is fully qualified and ready to drive the Dream Bus as far as our imaginations will take us.

As part of Bright & Wild 2026: The Disruptors, the Scamps and Wednesday Young Artists groups imagined what it would be like to disrupt an ordinary bus into an extraordinary world. Over the next year the Lyra team will transform a single decker bus into a creative play space, where you can let your imagination run wild.

As well as an interactive Play Space, the Dream Bus is a black box theatre, fully equipped with sound and lights for us to install any set into and take theatre productions on tour.

We've already hosted an exhibition of ideas for the play space on the Bus, and live theatre shows like 'Fly! Fly!' in which the Wednesday Young Artists transported audiences to a new world through live music and dance. The Lyra Ensemble also presented a fun, mini performance about the bravely disruptive play bus design ideas that have been dreamed up by our Scamps group.
